A very brief dispatch from north Yorkshire

Day 40

BigSisFo and Hank in the snow

 Greetings from north Yorkshire!

We made it here on the train with no problems, despite the snow, and have spent the afternoon playing in the snow with Hank, and lying around in front of a big log fire.

All was calm, all was bright, but now the normal chaos has returned, just as we were opening a bottle of champagne to drink a toast to R’s and my birthdays, which happen on consecutive days the week after next, by which time we will be deep in the darkness of FEC3. We have therefore brought forward our birthdays to this weekend.

The MC, who was out shooting poor defenceless birds all day, has just returned with 5 brace of pheasant, a brace of duck and 4 brace of partridge, and went to hang them in the wine cellar, a converted stable. Unfortunately, as he did so, he noticed water gushing under the door from another outbuilding, where the outside loo is located.

BigSisFo just went to look, and returned aghast, saying: ”It’s like Niagara out there!”

R has gone to assist.

That’s a philosophy professor, and a management consultant, looking for a stopcock somewhere out there in the dark and the snow.

They may be some time.

Whether we’ll ever get out to dinner tonight remains to be seen, but BigSisFo and I are enjoying our champagne – happily, FEC2 has been a little more forgiving on the alcohol front than FEC1, when I couldn’t touch it.

Whatever happens, we’re going to be holding a Rat Vigil upstairs later on – the Ratbuster failed to appear yesterday, the status of the attic’s new occupants remains uncertain, so we will all go upstairs and listen..

Watch this space…

ps BigSisFo just said "Oh, I really look forward to your chemo blog - it's not going to be the same now you're here'.

You just can't please all of the people...

THAT is either the best sitcom pitch to happen in years or the synopsis of the next Alan Ayckbourn play. Glad (and impressed) that you made it to god's own county, have fun.

  2. Have a lovely time. Hope you're out to dinner (or listening for rats) as I write.

Envy, envy. Still waiting for the promised (but non-existent) snow here.
